Regional Medical Center’s (RMC) Governing Board of Trustees is pleased to announce Charles (Charlie) Button, MBA, as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). With over 20 years of hospital leadership and nine of those years as a hospital CEO, Charlie brings a wealth of knowledge and new ideas that will continue to grow and develop our quality healthcare system.
“We [the Governing Board of Trustees] are very excited to have Charlie joining us at Regional Medical Center. He will start his role on August 28th,” shares Bev Preussner, Governing Board Chairperson. “We feel his personality and vision in focusing on patient care, along with his strengths in hospital oversight and financial planning are a great fit for our hospital.”
Currently, Charlie is the CEO for Star Valley Medical Center in Afton, Wyoming, a position he has held since 2012. Prior to this, Charlie was the CEO at Columbia County Health System in Washington. While at Star Valley Medical Center, Charlie has been an integral component in their achievement of being a Top 100 Critical Access Hospital four of his five years as their CEO. Star Valley Medical Center was also named a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital in 2013 and 2014. In addition, in December of 2016 Charlie was named one of the ‘60 Rural Hospital CEOs to Know’.
As a member of the CEO Search Committee, R. Ried Boom, MD, shares, “Being recognized as such [60 Rural Hospital CEOs to Know] is a testament to Charlie’s accomplishments in healthcare management. He is very focused on quality and quality measurements and has a passion for helping people and positively impacting the community he lives in. Charlie recognizes the importance of Regional Medical Center to the communities we serve and will be focused on continuing to provide ‘Excellence in healthcare, close to home’.”
When asked about what interested him in RMC and our community, Charlie shared, “Regional Medical Center is a great organization that is the right size, in a rural setting that has a very positive culture and great reputation. It is obvious Regional Medical Center has an exceptional group of providers and staff who are committed and engaged in providing outstanding healthcare in the community. I look forward to being a part of this community and exceptional organization with a team approach of continued improvement.”
Charlie is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Healthcare Financial Management Association, as well as a board member for the Wyoming Hospital Association and chairman of their local hospital cooperative. In his spare time, he enjoys running, bicycling, gardening and landscaping, four wheeling, fishing, and generally anything related to spending time outdoors. Charlie likes being involved in the community he lives in. In the past, he has served on the Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development, school board, city council, and volunteered to coach youth and high school sports.
Charlie and his wife, Susan, are excited about moving to our community. They appreciate the benefits of a rural community but also look forward to our close location to some larger towns. Charlie and Susan have two grown children and one grandchild, all whom live in Utah. Susan enjoys gardening, reading, and has been involved in the hospital Auxiliary.
