The RMC (Regional Medical Center) Auxiliary is pleased to announce the date of their second Blanket Workshop on Monday, February 17, from 1-5PM in Veterans Education Center - Level 3 at RMC. ALL SKILL LEVELS ARE WELCOME. Even children, accompanied by an adult, can take part in making blankets for this wonderful cause. We will be making single layer fleece blankets for infants and children through age 18 who are treated in the Emergency Department or admitted to RMC.
Please RSVP to Pat Swanson, RMC Auxiliary Volunteer, at 563-927-3395 so we can be sure that enough fabric and supplies are on hand for all participants. If you are not able to attend, but would like to contribute in some way, donations of fleece in appropriate colors and prints for children or teens will be accepted at the RMC Auxiliary Gift Shop during their hours Monday-Friday 7AM-4PM.
Suggested blanket sizes include:
- Infants 36" x 36" - no smaller. (An adequate supply of fleece for infants has already been received for this event.)
- Child/Youth 40" x 60"
- Teen 45" x 72"
Special Care must be taken to make sure that blankets are free of smoke and chemical odors (including scented detergent, fabric softener and dryer sheets), mold, mildew, and pet hair. Some children who receive our blankets may have compromised immune systems and we don't want to add to their health problems with a blanket we give them.
Project Linus, is a non-profit organization, which provides security through blankets to children in need. Blankets are lovingly made by adults and children “blanketeers” from all walks of life and many different sources.
