Regional Medical Center (RMC) Hospice have held Grief Support Group Meetings on the 1st Wednesday of each month from 4-6pm for many years. But, knowing how busy everyone’s lives are and wanting to be able to accommodate more schedules, there will also be a meeting held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 1-3pm. Nicole Brehm and Jodi Burgin, RMC Social Workers, lead the groups.
“When you join a new support group, you may be nervous about sharing personal issues with peop
le you don't know. At first, you may benefit from simply listening. Over time, contributing your own ideas and experiences may help you get more out of a support group,” said Nicole. “While family and friends are vital, unless they have experienced a close personal loss, they most likely don’t fully ‘get it’. That is where support groups can become a valuable resource.”
RMC grief supports group meetings are geared toward adults who have recently lost a loved one. Attendees can expect to gain emotional support in a safe and non-judgmental environment; develop coping skills; discover new traditions and ideas to keep loved ones present in their hearts and in their memories; and gain permission to live a happy productive life.
Join RMC’s free Grief Support Group for a few weeks. If it doesn't feel like a good fit, consider a different support group or a different support group format. The most important thing is – take care of yourself. Should you choose to do so by seeking out the support of a grief support group, or connecting one-on-one with a counselor or therapist, remember to take care of yourself. Grief is a life-long journey. Continue to seek out the resources you need to live a healthy, happy life.
