Des Moines, IA, April 10, 2017 – Delma Hardin was honored by members of the Iowa Public Health Association (IPHA) with the 2017 Thelma Luther Award.  Delma Hardin received this award on Monday, April 10, 2017 in conjunction with the Iowa Governor’s Conference on Public Health held in Des Moines, Iowa.

This award recognizes a local public health nurse who has made outstanding contributions in her field.  Eligibility requires employment in a public health nursing agency, in Iowa, for at least five years, providing direct patient care. The individual nominated may be leadership in an outstanding project or accomplishment or for a culmination of a career of outstanding service. This award was named to honor Thelma Luther, the Director of Public Health Nursing in the 1960s and 1970s.

Delma Hardin was nominated by Charity Loecke.

With over twenty-six years of hands-on-immunization experience Delma Hardin is a knowledgeable resource for our community.  She works hard to stay well informed while the local school nurses, daycare centers, parents, healthcare providers, and nurses depend on her for guidance regarding the most current immunization regulations and recommendations. Due to relationships built based upon trust and professionalism, she has immunized generations of families throughout the community.  Delma enjoys watching infants grow as the years go by through return visits for their vaccinations.  There are individuals in the community who specifically request Delma to administer their annual shots, for example, influenza vaccinations. Her compassion and expertise is very predominant in the work she does while making efforts to impact Delaware County to the greatest of her abilities. Delaware County simply never has vaccine related outbreaks and is considered one of Iowa’s best immunization success stories. Delma is the face of health, expertise, and dependability and will forever leave a legacy upon Delaware County Public Health.
