This July, Dr. Craig Thompson celebrates his 40th anniversary as a doctor at Regional Medical Center (RMC). Dr. Thompson has been and continues to be an integral part of many communities in our area, first practicing medicine in Strawberry Point before transitioning to Manchester. In his exemplary career, he has delivered over 1,000 babies, advanced emergency medical services throughout the RMC service area as well as the state of Iowa, cared for patients in the hospital and emergency department, and led the Emergency Department in achieving recognition for excellence in Trauma Care as a Level IV facility in Iowa in 2018. In addition, Dr. Thompson was recognized as the Iowa Family Physician of the Year in 2009.
“What Dr. Thompson has done for RMC and this community is remarkable. I look forward to his many more years of service leading our emergency department and ambulance service,” said Charlie Button, Regional Medical Center CEO.
Dr. Thompson obtained his DO from the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines in 1978, completing his internship at Des Moines General. He is currently the medical director of RMC’s paramedic level EMS services and serves as a director of 11 other EMS services in surrounding communities.
Dr. Thompson is known far and wide for his dedication in practicing compassionate medicine and contributions to various boards, community events, and education programs. Please join us in congratulating him on this major milestone!
