A Message from Charlie Button, New CEO
My career path starting out in college was in Forestry, which was the dominate industry in the places that I grew up in Washington and Oregon. As I saw the industry shrink, I shifted my focus to business and finance. After college, I took a couple of jobs in finance, eventually accepting a job as a Chief Financial Officer in a rural hospital. Most recently, I worked as a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in two different rural hospitals. Each change in my life led me to where I hope is my retirement home, Regional Medical Center (RMC).
I chose to seek employment at RMC because of its great reputation as a thriving and growing rural healthcare facility. After the very rigorous interview process and getting the feel of the hospital and community, I was convinced that RMC was the right fit for me and was pleased the Governing Board and Leadership agreed.
I started my journey as RMC’s CEO on August 28, 2017. During my first week of employment, I invited all RMC employees to small group meet-and-greets - “Cookies with Charlie” - where we got to know a little about each other. After employee meet and greets, I will be out in the community to meet my new neighbors and future friends. If you see me or my wife, Susan, please stop and introduce yourself. I want each employee and community member to feel comfortable talking with me now and in the future. My door is always open.
Although RMC is already a great place, my whole heart is to make RMC better. I plan to observe and present ideas on what improvements can be made while maintaining our culture and independence.
Fiscal responsibility is important to me professionally as well as personally. I grew up in a large family in Washington. Although my father worked hard, we were very poor. Because of that, I was expected to help out financially at a very young age. This financial responsibility has helped shape me into the person I am today.
My wife, Susan, of 26 years has also helped shape me. We have two grown children who live in Utah. I am proud to say that my son, Jaron, guarded the last president as a Marine and is now a full-time student. My daughter, Elise, followed her dreams and began a career as a cosmetologist. In my spare time, I like to run, bike, garden and landscape, four wheel, fish, and do anything related to being outdoors. Susan likes to garden, craft, and do outdoor activities as well.
