Regional Medical Center (RMC) welcomed U.S. Representative Abby Finkenauer on Friday, May 25 for a tour of the hospital and a conversation about our needs as a rural hospital in Iowa. Finkenauer spoke with RMC’s Charlie Button, Chief Executive Officer; Heather Ries, Chief Nursing Officer; Bev Preussner, Governing Board of Trustees Member; Joan Funke, Human Resources Director; and Jody Hatfield, Administration Executive Assistant. Some of the topics that were discussed included the statewide nursing shortage, provider recruitment, and Medicare reimbursement issues. Representative Finkenauer acknowledged these issues and discussed future opportunities for improvement, including some bipartisan bills in the works. While on the facility tour, Finkenauer was able to meet Dr. Clinton Cummings, family practice provider at Regional Family Health, as well as Dr. Craig Thompson, Emergency Services Medical Director at RMC. She listened to some of the challenges they are faced with daily and welcomed their feedback for what causes she could champion in the House of Representatives.
