Preparation for labor, delivery, newborn care, and beyond. Classes are provided free of charge. To register, call 563-927-7318.

Prepared Childbirth Class

Classes are held in Veterans Education Center - Level 3, unless otherwise noted.

You and your support person will learn:

  • Support person's vital role
  • Breathing, relaxation, and pain management techniques
  • Medication options
  • Labor variations, i.e. C-section, back labor, induction
  • Coping with possible complications
  • Infant safety
  • Car seat safety

  • How to get started breastfeeding
  • Breastfeeding advantages
  • How to avoid breastfeeding problems
  • How to find breastfeeding support
  • Tips about returning to work

Sibling Class

Your children (ages 3-10), you, and your support person will learn:

  • What to expect after the new baby arrives
  • Where mom and baby will stay while in the hospital (you can tour the OB)
  • What to expect when visiting the hospital
  • Newborn safety tips

Prepared Childbirth Refresher

If you have children and attended past prenatal education classes but have questions, take an hour or two to speak with a nurse. Class 563-927-7318 to set up a time that works for you.
