RMC's Diabetes Educators offer a range of services to help people maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Abigail Carper
RD, LD

Abbie graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Dietetics and completed an internship through Iowa State University in the summer of 2013. Abbie is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Prior to coming to RMC, Abbie worked with geriatric population in rehab and long term care. Outside of work, she likes to spend time with her family, and activities such as fishing or canoeing. Abbie joined RMC in 2016.

Amanda Donlon
BSN, RN, CDE

Amanda graduated from Mount Mercy College in May of 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. She became a Registered Nurse in July 2005. Amanda joined Regional Medical Center in  2005.

Kristen Simon-Frank

RD, LD

Kristen graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota with a degree in Food and Nutrition and completed a one year internship at the University of Minnesota Hospital. She has been self-employed as a consultant dietitian for long term care facilities and group homes. Kristen is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Kristen joined Regional Medical Center in 2014.

Cara L. Recker

RD, LD, CNSC, CDE

Cara graduated from Iowa State University in May 2008 with a degree in Dietetics. She became a registered and licensed dietitian in summer 2009 after completing a 6-month dietetic internship program through Iowa State University. Cara obtained a specialty certification in nutrition support (tube feedings and IV nutrition) in 2010 and became a certified diabetes educator in 2011. She is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the local Northeast Iowa District Dietitian’s Association.

Cara's favorite part about being a dietitian is helping individuals achieve their personal nutrition goals to improve their overall health and wellbeing. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family and friends, especially when it involves trying new foods, particularly desserts, or outdoor activities.

Cara joined Regional Medical Center in 2010.

Joan Wessels
BSN, RN, CDE, CIC
 

Joan graduated from Finley Hospital School of Nursing in 1979 with a Diploma in Nursing and BSN in 1996 from Clark College in Dubuque. She has been employed at RMC in nursing since 1979. Joan has specialized in providing diabetes education for over 20 years, receiving her initial certified diabetes educator credential in 1992.
