Nationwide Radiology IV Contrast Shortage

Nationwide Radiology IV Contrast Shortage

May 13, 2022 in News, Radiology

COVID-19 continues to affect things around the world. With a recurrence of more infections in China, a manufacturing facility producing IV contrast solution was shut down for a period of time as they tried to curb the spread. This facility is not yet back up to full production, resulting in supply chain issues.

Due to this, the healthcare system is experiencing a nationwide shortage of radiology IV contrast that is used for some x-rays, MRIs, and CT scans. This shortage is affecting every hospital throughout the nation, including Regional Medical Center in Manchester.

What this means for our patients is that care involving this IV contrast solution is being rationed. These special tests involving IV contrast are being prioritized for the most seriously ill patients and postponing those more routine tests for those who can safely wait until the supply issues are resolved.

It is important to highlight that not all imaging done requires IV contrast.

On behalf of our entire team at Regional Medical Center, we thank you in advance for your understanding and support as we continue to navigate through providing care amidst COVID-19.
