COVID-19 Cases Increasing

Cases are on the rise. All across the United States and in Delaware County, there is a rising trend in positive COVID-19 cases. The Omicron Variant is still the predominant variant. BA.5, a lineage of Omicron, is causing an estimated 78% in cases and has fueled the rapid rise since June, suggesting that it spreads more easily than previous Omicron lineages. There have been reports of breakthrough infections among those vaccinated; however, hospitalizations and deaths have decreased due to vaccination.

It is still a priority and important to vaccinate against COVID-19. If you are 6 months of age or older, you are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Many in our community received their initial doses of the vaccine but have not yet received their booster. This means many are not fully protected because they are not up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines. With time, there is a gradual decrease in vaccine protection, making the booster dose very important to get.

Contact your healthcare provider today to see about getting your COVID-19 vaccine or boost. You can also visit vaccines.gov for vaccine provider information. Learn more about COVID-19 and vaccines at cdc.gov/covid-19.
