Are You Up-To-Date with COVID-19 Vaccines?

September 8, 2022 in News, Public Health

Vaccines have been available for decades and help by offering protection from diseases. The COVID-19 vaccine and boosters are no different. They are effective at protecting people from getting very ill, being hospitalized, or even dying from COVID-19. But, like other vaccines, you are best protected when you stay up-to-date on your COVID-19 immunizations, including booster doses.

Everyone ages 6 months and older should get their COVID-19 primary series doses. Those age 5 and older should get their primary series as well as booster doses, if eligible. Even if you have recovered from a COVID-19 infection, a COVID-19 vaccine will provide you with added protection down the road.

Booster doses of the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines have been updated to contain components of the original virus strain and the omicron variant. These updated vaccines will provide better protection against COVID-19.

If it has been two months or more since you received a COVID-19 vaccine, you are likely eligible for a booster. Contact your healthcare provider or Delaware County Public Health at 563-927-7551 to see if you are up-to-date with your COVID-19 vaccines.
