Treat and Street Smarts

Treat and Street Smarts

October 26, 2023 in News, Parent Education & Support

Halloween is an exciting time for traditions like trick-or-treating. As parents and guardians, it is our job to protect our little ones from very real dangers. The Regional Medical Center (RMC) Parents as Teachers team have prepared some “treat and street smarts” to share with your young ones.

  • Travel together. Always walk in a large group with adults present.
  • Look both ways. Remind your child(ren) to look both ways before crossing streets.
  • Stay on the sidewalks. If sidewalks are available, utilize them. If they are not, walk on the far edge of the road facing traffic.
  • See and be seen. Provide a flashlight or glow stick to your child(ren) while trick-or-treating to help them see and be seen by others.
  • All treats, no tricks. If you have any doubt about the safety of a treat, throw it out.

Halloween is about having fun and making memories so let’s make safe choices to ensure that. This is a great reminder for all parents and kids, drivers and pedestrians to be thoughtful, attentive and careful. On behalf of the RMC Parents as Teachers, we wish you all a safe and Happy Halloween.
