UPDATED COVID-19 Booster Shot Recommendations

November 2, 2022 in Family Practice, News, Public Health

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that people ages 5 and older receive one UPDATED (bivalent) booster if it has been at least 2 months since their last COVID-19 vaccine dose. Whether your last dose was a final primary series dose or an original (monovalent) booster, you should get an updated (bivalent) booster.

It is important to note that even if you have already received more than one original (monovalent) booster, you are still recommended to receive an UPDATED (bivalent) booster.

“We understand the recommendations have been challenging and sometimes confusing as things have changed through the course of the pandemic,” notes Krystle DeShaw, Delaware County Public Health Supervisor. “The bottom line is that we recommend you to receive an updated booster if it has been 2 months or longer since your last COVID-19 vaccine dose.”

Regional Family Health clinics in Manchester, Dyersville, Edgewood, Hopkinton, Strawberry Point, and Winthrop have the UPDATED (bivalent) Moderna boosters available for those age 6 and older. Booster doses will be given during regular clinic hours, by appointment only. To find other vaccine providers, visit vaccines.gov.

If you are unsure of your vaccination status, please reach out to Delaware County Public Health or your primary healthcare provider.
