Regional Medical Center Seeking SHIIP Volunteer

Regional Medical Center Seeking SHIIP Volunteer

March 11, 2022 in News, Regional Medical Center

Regional Medical Center (RMC) is an official sponsor for the Senior Health Insurance and Senior Medicare Patrol (SHIIP-SMP) programs, a service of the State of Iowa. SHIIP volunteers provide local, in-depth, and unbiased one-to-one insurance counseling and assistance at no cost to Delaware County Medicare-eligible individuals, their families and caregivers. This program also provides community outreach on Medicare and how to guard against Medicare fraud.

SHIIP-SMP helps consumers navigate the complexities of Medicare and saves them money by:

  • Explaining Medicare benefits and rights
  • Comparing Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, and other drug plans
  • Understanding Medicare enrollment periods and preventative benefits
  • Finding assistance programs that will help with Medicare costs and Medicare drug plans
  • Learning how to protect themselves and their loved ones from Medicare scams

“Our SHIIP-SMP volunteers have completed an extensive training program and are certified each year. We are so fortunate to have Vera Smith as our trained SHIIP-SMP volunteer and we are so excited to welcome another volunteer to the team,” said Lori Weber, RMC Business Services Manager.

“I love helping others and I have been able to use my skills that I acquired over the many years working, to save others money. If there is a tiny spark of interest, please give this a chance. You will not regret it,” shared Vera Smith, RMC’s current SHIIP volunteer.

If you would like to become a SHIIP volunteer apply online at shiip.iowa.gov/be-part-of-shiip. All applications are due by April 8, 2022. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Lori Weber at 563-927-7533.
