Recognizing National Breastfeeding Month
Each year, there is a global campaign to promote and support breastfeeding worldwide. This year the focus is “enabling breastfeeding: making a difference for working parents.” Regional Medical Center (RMC) is shining a light on this subject as August is National Breastfeeding Month.
The mere focus of breastfeeding and the workplace shows the impact and importance of having community support for breastfeeding parents. Positive support can protect and promote human milk feeding practices.
RMC’s Obstetrics and Family Practice Department holds a community breastfeeding support group each month on the second Wednesday from 9-10AM. “Mothers have the opportunity to share successes and challenges of breastfeeding/pumping with other mothers,” shares Shelley Dolan, Lactation Consultant. “All moms and babies are welcome, whether you are directly nursing, pumping, feeding expressed breastmilk or formula feeding.”
Shelley Dolan, RMC’s Lactation Consultant, is present during these support group gatherings to answer any questions and provide assistance. This is a FREE opportunity for connection and support. If you are looking for more information or assistance you can call the OB Department at 563-927-7318.
